Did you know that November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month?  You didn’t?  You’re not the only one.  It’s sad that November is almost over and not a peep has been said about funding for Lung Cancer Research.  Ok they did light Niagara Falls in white, the official color for lung cancer awareness.  I bet you didn’t know about this either.

The unawareness and lack of PR really hits a soft spot and pushes buttons for me because I know a loved one who has lung cancer.  My mother is currently battling Stage IV Lung Cancer.  And before you ask the question, “No, she never smoked.”

The lack of awareness and funding for lung cancer is appalling.  Did you know that 55% of those newly diagnosed with lung cancer are never smokers or those who have quit smoking years ago?  Lung Cancer does not just affect smokers as most people believe.  Basically, if you have lungs you can get lung cancer. Anyone can get lung cancer.  Lung Cancer is the #1 cancer killer in the United States and kills patients in less than a year.  This is why there is no voice for lung cancer because most patients don’t live to tell their story.  Here are other factoids about lung cancer (quoted from LUNGevity Foundation):

    • Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death, regardless of gender or ethnicity.
    • Lung cancer impacts one in 14 Americans and kills more than breast, prostate, colorectal, leukemia, and melanoma cancers combined.
    • Lung cancer kills almost twice as many women as breast cancer, and more than twice as many men as prostate cancer.
    • Lung cancer accounts for 14% of all new cancer diagnoses but 27% of all cancer deaths.

After reading these statistics the big question to ask is…WHERE IS THE FUNDING???

Here is your chance to make a difference and at the same time smell like optimism and hope.  Tallulah Jane NYC is donating 50% of their proceeds from Hope Eau de Parfum to the American Cancer Society.  The lovely Scenthive caught my attention with her beautiful review.  Please take a dander over to Scenthive’s blog, her description of Hope Eau de Parfum is nothing but stellar!  If you leave her a comment, you will automatically enter a drawing to win a free sample!

There are people affected by lung cancer who are counting on you! People like my mother who is fighting for her life and people like me who are suffering just as much seeing their loved one affected by this monster of a disease.
